Reviews:

This is one of the silkiest, most intensely fruited, beautifully balanced Brunellos we've seen in some time.  The ripe, black cherry fruit has great depth and balance, while being supported by a serious amount of dark chocolate and smoke flavors, with a very tasty minerality about it.  It really is a complete package and is drinking beautifully at the moment.  However, you could easily put this one down in the cellar for another 10 years without worry.  Enjoy now through 2027+. - DZ Jan 2017

Why We're Drinking It:

Brunello di Montalcino - the Tuscan, hillside-grown wines of 100% Sangiovese - are some of the most prestigious reds in the world!

We discovered the Bartolo-Giusti family’s winery through our Direct Import program, whereby we scour the corners of the earth for under the radar, not-as-yet imported examples of the finest wines on earth. The 2010 Bartoli Giusti Brunello di Montalcino is  a terrific, traditionally styled wine from an outstanding vintage with all the DOCG has to offer! Ripe fruit overtones, juicy with red cherry plum and wild strawberry, dusky earth and sanguine notes, the nose is delicately poised and leads to a rich, well-balanced palate with hints of spice, slightly chewy tannins, a subtle chalky minerality and superb persistence.

Here all that is seen in a wine produced with pure estate Sangiovese that was rigidly selected for quality and picked by hand, yhen aged in oak casks for three years and aged in the bottle for three more. The winemaker, Anna Maria, herself described this bottling as “slightly ethereal, intense and persistent; our Tasting Panel marks as "well defined and superbly structured".

Three Reasons Why We Love It:

The word Brunello translates roughly as ""little dark one,"" and is the local vernacular name for Sangiovese Grosso, the large-berried form of Sangiovese which grows in the area. For us, this Reserve production  is one of the silkiest, most intensely fruited, beautifully balanced Brunellos we've seen in some time.

Brunello di Montalcino, one Italy's most famous and prestigious wines, is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown on the slopes around Montalcino – a classic Tuscan hilltop village 20 miles south of Siena. Here, the wine is crafted with centiuries of winemaking mastery under its belt.

Keeping with the regulations of Brunello's DOCG classification, the vineyards must be planted on hills with good exposures at altitudes not surpassing 600m above sea level, to ensure the grapes reach optimal ripeness and flavor before being harvested. "

Tasting Notes:

Ruby red in the glass, the nose is slightly ethereal, intense and persistent. In the mouth, the taste is dry, harmonious and elegant. Serving temperature : for Brunello to fully express its characteristics, it must be tasted at 18-20 ° C; it is preferable to uncork the bottle a few hours before serving and decant it.

Perfect Pairings:

Brunello pairs charmingly with very structured dishes such as roasts, game, stews, aged cheeses, but is also considered a great sipping wine.
